privacy policy

this policy describes how we handle personal data for the waitlist site and, where noted, the cognoscene chrome extension beta. it is written for transparency during pre-launch. it is not a substitute for legal advice. we may update this page as the product ships.

1. who we are

cognoscene (“cognoscene”, “we”, “us”) is the project name under which we operate the cognoscene browser extension from singapore. we are not a registered legal entity at the time of this page; the operators of cognoscene act as the data controller for personal data described here. if we later incorporate or register a legal entity, we will update this policy and notify users where required.

2. scope

this policy covers:

• the waitlist website (including form submissions);
• beta communications (email);
• the cognoscene chrome extension when you install it (see section 5).

3. waitlist data we collect

when you join the waitlist, we may collect:

• email address (required);
• optional post-signup survey responses: country, how you found us, platforms you want cognoscene to support, and any referral details you choose to type;
• technical data sent by your browser to our form host (e.g. ip address, user agent, timestamp) — standard for web forms.

why: to manage founding beta batches, contact you about install access, provide support, and use optional survey responses for waitlist and product research. survey responses are optional and are not used to determine beta eligibility.

legal basis: your consent when you submit the form, and our legitimate interest in running a controlled beta.

4. waitlist processors

• formspree — receives and forwards waitlist submissions. see formspree privacy policy.
• github pages — hosts the static waitlist site. see github privacy statement.
• google analytics (ga4) — helps us understand traffic such as pages viewed, device type, and approximate location. google may use cookies or similar identifiers. you can use browser controls or opt-out tools google provides. see google privacy policy.

we do not sell your waitlist data.

5. extension data (after you install)

if you install the beta extension, additional data may be processed on your device and, if you sign in and enable sync, on our backend:

• google account email — for account identity, waitlist / founding entitlement matching, and optional cloud sync;
• tracked website list — domains you add for checkout friction;
• hold, drop, and growth events — timestamps and summaries of paused checkouts and rationalised purchases (not full payment card data);
• friction and settings preferences — e.g. hold duration settings, toggles you choose;
• browsing interaction on tracked sites only — our content script runs on domains you list to detect checkout actions and apply friction. we do not claim to read your whole browsing history. optional features (e.g. top sites suggestions) are off unless you opt in;
• payment — founding purchases are processed by stripe. we do not store full card numbers. stripe processes payment according to its own privacy policy.

backend sync (when enabled) may use supabase. data may be stored on servers outside singapore. we use service providers that apply appropriate safeguards.

we do not use cognoscene to diagnose, treat, or monitor mental health conditions, and we do not design the product as clinical or compulsive-shopping treatment.

6. retention

• waitlist records: until you withdraw consent or we no longer need them for beta operations, then deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period;
• extension / account data: while your account is active and as needed for support, billing, and legal compliance;
• analytics: per provider defaults or our configured retention (typically months, not years).

7. your rights (singapore pdpa)

subject to applicable law, you may request to:

• access personal data we hold about you;
• correct inaccurate data;
• withdraw consent (e.g. waitlist marketing — we will stop future contact);
• ask how your data has been used or disclosed.

8. security

we use reputable hosting and payment providers and limit access to personal data. no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. children

cognoscene is intended for users aged 18 and above. we do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. contact us if you believe a child has submitted data.

10. changes

we may update this policy. the “last updated” date will change. material changes may be noted on the waitlist site or by email where appropriate.
